Cabela’s is an outdoor recreation gear chain founded by Richard N. Cabela in 1961. Initially, it started as a mail order store focusing on fishing supplies. Richard would purchase fishing flies in Chicago and advertise them in the local newspaper. To expand their reach, Cabela placed ads in a national magazine, realizing the demand for a mail-order fishing supply company. The company's success led Richard to involve his wife and brother in managing the sales. Over time, Cabela’s expanded and now includes retail stores and a website. With 82 shops throughout North America, Cabela’s employs over 19,000 workers, with its largest store situated in Pennsylvania. Hunting supplies and equipment contribute to more than half of Cabela’s annual sales, while customers can also purchase camping gear, ATVs, fishing equipment, and boating gear. Additionally, Cabela’s is recognized for their video games that simulate recreational activities. Currently, Cabela’s operates as a subsidiary of Bass Pro Shops and sponsors various NASCAR drivers and cars.
