In 1971, the first Bed Bath & Beyond store opened in Springfield, New Jersey, under the name Bed 'n Bath. Warren Eisenberg and Leonard Feinstein foresaw a shift in the market from discount stores to specialty stores and decided to leave their management positions at a struggling discount store in order to open Bed 'n Bath. In just 14 years, they expanded to 17 stores in New York and California. The first superstore under the Bed 'n Bath brand was introduced in 1985, and in 1987, the company changed its name to Bed Bath & Beyond. However, due to financial difficulties, they filed for bankruptcy in early 2023, resulting in the closure of all physical store locations. Later that same year, Overstock acquired Bed Bath & Beyond, and the company shifted its operations to an online-only platform. Today, they specialize in selling a wide range of products, including exercise equipment, home décor, bedding for adults and kids, kitchen and bathroom products, as well as furniture and home improvement products.
