Party City is an American chain of party stores that sells various party supplies, costumes, and special occasion items. It was founded by Steve Mandell in East Hanover, New Jersey, in 1986. What initially started as a single 4,000-square-foot store quickly grew into a successful venture, leading to the opening of more branches. After a prosperous first year, Mandell decided to focus on Halloween, a decision that proved to be wise. Currently, Halloween remains a prominent aspect of Party City, with approximately 300 Halloween City pop-up stores opening annually. In 1990, Mandell established Party City as a franchise, which expanded rapidly, totaling 58 locations within three years. Today, Party City is the largest party goods retailer in North America, with over 900 company-owned and franchise outlets. Party City offers a wide range of party supplies, available in various colors and themes, including licensed characters and sports teams, to suit any occasion. Additionally, it provides items for holidays and special events like baby showers, graduations, and weddings. Halloween costumes are available throughout the year. Furthermore, select Party City stores offer in-store balloon filling with helium and some even provide balloon delivery services.
